The Maverick
Surf & Dive Lodge
Our Island
The Maverick is the Maldives first Surf and Dive lodge (although you will have a great time if you do neither!). Our resort has 25 very spacious and private tented lodges which sit beautifully on our private beach, surrounded by lush vegetation. Our island Mundoo is an inhabited island but has only 167 inhabitants, so they are all our friends and welcome telling our guests about their lives as island dwellers. Within swimming distance of The Maverick are a Manta Ray cleaning station, a Grouper egg laying site, a deep coral channel, and two of the Maldives most famous surf breaks; Sarongs & Machines. It is a glorious location for nature lovers and experience-loving tourists
Our Atoll: Laamu
Laamu is the “real Maldives”; an unspoiled marine paradise which has been little touched by the impact of tourism. Staying at the Maverick, you will not be able to see any tall buildings and only the odd aeroplane. There is a real sense of tranquility and relaxation. The people of Laamu are fishermen and farmers, and they are proud that the Atoll remains little touched by tourism. You will reach Laamu by a seaplane or a scenic domestic flight transfer which will take 50 minutes, followed by a mere 8-minute speedboat ride.
Our People
Our staff are dedicated to making sure that you have a great time. We are a mix of Laamu locals and other nationalities, all with backgrounds in Maldives hospitality.
We want to make sure that our eco tourists have the best experience of the Maldives and if they want to, to enjoy all of the culture, marine life and history of the Maldives (If you want to relax and just enjoy your room, the beach and the sea, that’s okay too!)
At the resort, amongst others, there are great chefs, local guides for surfing, diving and snorkelling, attentive guest relation officers and housekeepers who understand what clean really means!
We are committed to ecotourism and sustainability. We shop local and employ local wherever we can. We recycle and work in cooperation with the environment and local Laamu population to make sure we enhance the atoll and the people’s lives.
We care about the community in Laamu and actively invest to help ensure that tourists and their money help the local community. We have a range of experiences, financed by us, but owned and operated by the atoll’s residents. It’s one of the ways that we hope to leave a legacy in Laamu.
